This docushow portrays the lives of the new “madrileños” (residents of Madrid), who have arrived in Madrid for different reasons. Some have arrived for work, others for love and others by mere coincidence, and there is a flip side to every good story. Each program is about the story of 5 anonymous citizens who show us what their life in Madrid is like, and why they left their country of origin to move there. They also show us how they have adapted to life in the Community of Madrid and how they manage to keep their traditions going.
“Embajadores” wants to portray the Community of Madrid as an example of a place where nobody is a stranger, while showing who these new residents are, and how they live. 17% of Madrid’s population is made up of immigrants. One million people have arrived from different countries: Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Morocco and Romania. These people share the hope of settling down and integrating in a new country, while keeping their cultural identity. The 5 different stories we come across in each program basically follow 3 profiles:
- human and emotional (of self-improvement, love and reunion)
- integration (both professional and social)
- arrival and adaptation (generosity and solidarity)
We discover how they live, where they work, what they do to connect to their roots, what they like about Madrid, how the city surprises them, and what their relationship with the locals is like. The stories are positive and center on the efforts made by the immigrants and how the locals welcome them.
